Olympic stadium

The Olympiastadion (Olympic Stadium) was originally constructed for the 1916 Summer Olympic Games, which were postponed due to the outbreak of World War I. The Olympics were finally held in Berlin in1936, where American athlete Jesse Owens produced a dazzling individual performance winning four gold medals. Today, the stadium hosts a range of sports including American Football and is the venue for the German Cup final, plus German national team matches. The Olympic Stadium proved a fitting stage for the 2006 FIFA World Cup final between France and Italy, which will forever be remembered for the legendary Zinedine Zidane's explosive reaction to Italy player Marco Materazzi's taunts in his final match as a professional. Guided tours are available daily from 9am - 6pm, departing from the Osstor (East Gate)
