Old National Gallery
The Alte Nationalgalerie, or Old National Gallery in English, is located on Museum Island in Berlin. This Gallery has many important 19th century works from the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation collection. The building is shaped like a Roman temple with an apse and was designed from a sketch by King Frederick William IV of Prussia. It was built from 1869 to 1876 and the building suffered heavy damage in WWII air raids, not being fully restored until 1969. The collection includes classical and romantic works, French Impressionists such as Manet and Monet and early modern works or artists such as Max Liebermann.
