Central Train Station

Berlin Hauptbahnhof is the main central train station in Berlin . It was inaugurated on May 26, 2006 and is currently Europe 's largest two-level railway station. On the site of the former Lehrter Bahnhof, it was originally used in 1871 as the railway linking Berlin with Lehrte, and became an important East-West railway. It lost its significance after the city was separated by the Berlin Wall and there was a general protest of the S Bahn in West Berlin until the 80s. The station was renovated after damage in WWII only in 1987 to commemorate Berlin ’s 750th anniversary. Today you can take trains to many parts of from here including Hanover , Cologne , Leipzig and Hamburg to name a few.
