| Berliner Dom (Cathedral)
The Berliner Dom or Berlin Cathedral was built by order of Emporer Wilhelm II, between 1895 and 1905. It is located on Museum Island , faces the Lustgarten and is bordered by the Spree . It features a historic blend of styles ranging from baroque to renaissance elements and has an incredibly small front door. Its dimensions were meant to be impressive: 114 m long, 73 m wide and 116 m tall. This building was much larger than any of the previous protestant buildings of worship and was considered to be the Protestant response to St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City . The Dom was extensively damaged during WWII and was completely restored by 1993. |
