Potsdamer Platz
Potsdamer Platz is probably tied with Alexanderplatz as Berlin's most famous square. Located in the center of the German capital, near the huge Tiergarten park it is very close to the Neue Nationalgalerie and the Gemäldegalerie museums. This square became very famous in the 1920s as the location of the first traffic light in history. After World War II, Potsdamer Platz was split in two by the infamous Berlin Wall. This is portrayed in a film by Wim Wenders called Wings of Desire (Der Himmel über Berlin).
Potsdamer Platz has undergone a total renovation, and is now full of new and interesting architectural forms, which include the Sony Center Potsdamer Platz Arkaden shopping centres. The square is also famous for the Berlin Film Festival, also known as the Berlinale.
